David J. A. Bargen, Zachary L. Blackman and Shaylene M. Smith have been nominated for District Judge in the First Judicial District for Governor Pete Ricketts consideration.

Bargen is a partner with Rembolt Ludtke in Lincoln, Nebraska. He practices in the areas of Agriculture, Environmental, Water and Natural Resources, Government and Lobbying, as well as Litigation.

Blackman is the Assistant Attorney General at the Nebraska Attorney General’s Office in Lincoln, Nebraska, where he handles state cases.  

Smith is a lawyer with Kalkwarf and Smith Law Offices, L.L.C. in Crete, Nebraska. His areas of practice include Civil Litigation, Criminal Law, Domestic and Family Law, Estate Planning/Probate, Nonprofit and Real Estate.

The primary place of office for the judicial vacancy is Wilber, Nebraska, in Saline County. The vacancy is due to the retirement of Judge Vicky L. Johnson. -30-
